“Yoga is the calming of the fluctuations of the mind”
Yoga means union. The union of the body with the mind. This partnership is too often lost in our daily lives where the body is busy performing all daily chores, running errands and working, while the mind is busy with a constant influx of thoughts and stress.
Today, success is measured by how much we can fit into one day and how quickly can we do what needs to be done in one day. Balance is not a skill that comes easily and requires some conscious practice.
Yoga is that practice.
Yoga is an ancient practice dating back to thousands of years ago in which those who practiced yoga aimed to achieve enlightenment not only through the physical practice of asana, but through incorporating yoga in all aspect of their lives. The practice of yoga is much more than just stretching. In fact, the physical component of yoga which is called asana makes up only one of the eight limbs of yoga practice. Yoga is a safe practice for people from different walks of life at all stages of life.
Yoga practice can:
- Improve strength and balance
- Improve bone and joint health
- Improve quality of sleep
- Improve mental health and concentration
- Help to relieve symptoms of anxiety and depression
- Help to relieve pain and manage stress
- Help to improve mood and confidence
